Jessica Bakeman has served on the executive board of Miami Sound Space since 2022. She is also the founder of We Met In Miami, an event series launching in 2024 to foster love, friendship and IRL connection in the 305. She is a mezzo, a salsa dancer, a libra, a hype woman and pansexual.

Professionally, Jessica is director of enterprise journalism at WLRN, the NPR member station in South Florida. In 2023, she was named editor of the year by the Florida chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. She was honored with a national Edward R. Murrow Award in 2022 for her work documenting how the pandemic affected children and public education.

Jessica proudly hails from Rochester, N.Y., and after moving around a bit, she settled in Miami in 2017.

Following months of isolation during COVID-19, Jessica was looking for ways to reconnect with her childhood love of the arts, and she discovered Miami Sound Choir from a Google search. From the first rehearsal she attended in fall 2021, she knew she would become deeply embedded in this community. She is committed to helping the organization reach its full potential, and she is passionate about sustaining this inclusive space for healing, relief and catharsis through music.
